History
EARLY DAYS
Miriam Technologies finds its roots in the founder’s early experience with the Internet, which dates back to 1992, before the rise in popularity of the World Wide Web (WWW). Using a dial-up Internet account offered through Oregon State University, Ken Treis spent hours exploring the new and fascinating world of internetworking. Fortunately, his parents allowed him to continue this early form of career training, despite the fact that they thought he was “wasting time” on computer games.
Intrigued by the UNIX-based operating system on the OSU computers, Ken installed his first Linux system—based on Slackware version 2.0—on a 486 in 1994. The lure of something for nothing—that something being quality, reliable, and not to mention really cool software—was just too much for Ken to pass up. Since then, he has deployed open-source software solutions for businesses, schools, churches, and individuals.
Ken Treis initially founded Reasonability in 1998 as a family owned and operated business to use his diverse programming and general computing knowledge to serve customers throughout the US and Canada.
MIRIAM TECHNOLOGIES TODAY
As the company grew and its customer base expanded, the company was formally incorporated as Miriam Technologies, Inc. in 2003. Ken continues to actively serve as systems architect, software engineer, network administrator, and lead programmer for many of the company’s projects. His broad base of technical experience gives him a unique perspective on computing technologies.
The Miriam Technologies team has grown to include members with complementary skills that share the belief that open computing systems are best. Our engineering team uses Internet standards and open-source software whenever possible. Most of our software systems are built upon the Linux operating system.
We always strive to achieve simplicity in our designs. Engineering simplicity helps us achieve our other goals of reliability and usability.
